TIPS

The monetary value of a diamond is not part of the information offered by its certificate. EGL’s certificates are like a passport – they present essential information about the diamond such as the 4 Cs.
EGL’s diamond appraisals value the diamond according to various market considerations. These reliable and trustworthy appraisals are the surest way of placing a monetary value on your diamond.

Size doesn’t necessarily count…
What color is the diamond? What inclusions does it have? Does the shape suit you and the setting you are considering for it? Does it catch the light? What is the quality of the cut or polish? Not only are these aspects equally important when you want to choose a diamond that suits you, they are also equally important when it comes to assessing the worth of any diamond. Of course, a large stone is appealing, but don’t let this factor turn your attention away from the other important aspects.

Color – before your very eyes!
You will enjoy looking at your diamond every day, in natural conditions – not under the microscope. So the color of the stone, which can be seen without the aid of any instrument, is one of the most important factors to

consider together with good proportions, and is more important than inclusions (clarity) which are usually invisible to the naked eye.

Inscribing your diamond
You’ve bought your diamond, you’ve chosen the ideal setting – now you want to make it truly your own. Inscribing is an extremely popular way of personalizing a diamond – offering the ultimate in a truly unique treasure. An inscription carried out by EGL does not reduce the value of the diamond – on the contrary, it is an original and imaginative way of adding the perfect message to the one you love. For more information about this exciting possibility, see our page on laser inscription.

It’s all a matter of personal taste
The worth of a diamond should not be ignored, and the quality of the stone, as outlined in the EGL certificate, is certainly an important factor. But in your attempts to balance all the factors and advice concerning diamonds, don’t forget the most important point: do you like it? Does it suit you and the jewelry for which it is intended? The diamond you see with your own eyes is what counts – nobody will be checking your diamond with a microscope as you tread the red carpet!

BLUE WHITE DIAMONDS?
(Legend or Reality)

Blue Fluorescence often adds value to lower color diamonds as it gives the stones a whiter & brighter appearance. The impact of Blue Fluorescence on price depends on its noticeability. However for some higher color stones, strong fluorescence gives the diamond a milky white appearance, which could lower its value. In some instances, the fluorescence is hardly noticeable and thus has minimal impact on the diamond’s brilliance.
